During a recent courtesy call with the Chiefs, government has reaffirmed its commitment to community development and outlined priority programs for the year.
Muchinga Province Permanent Secretary Dr. Tuesday Bwalya highlighted some of these priorities:
1. Farmer Input Support Programme (FISP) and Cash for Work initiative will continue to empower households.
2. Chiefs’ retainers will receive motorbikes to improve mobility.
3. Construction of Chiefs’ palaces is progressing across the country.
4. Mpika–Serenje road set for rehabilitation by the World Bank and feeder roads earmarked for effective upgrades.
In Chiundaponde, the Chief raised specific priorities including involvement in the management of the Bangweulu Wetlands to address human-animal conflicts, expedited works on the Chiundaponde road, and the commencement of RDA works on the Chiundaponde–Muwele stretch.
Appeals were also made for a mortuary at the Mini Hospital, electricity supply, and street lighting in the chiefdom centre.
Chiefs welcomed genuine investors into the chiefdoms, while emphasizing the need for improved healthcare services, readily available medicines, and strengthened education through the free education policy and school feeding program.
These initiatives reflect a collective agenda to strengthen infrastructure, healthcare, education, and community welfare, while safeguarding cultural and natural heritage across the chiefdoms.
